Thankful Pies..

We have been looking at the art of Wayne Theibaud and made a project focused on sweet pies and being thankful since Thanksgiving is around the corner.

Cleaning Water

My oldest is interested in water clean up and my youngest is interested in saving animals. I happened to stumble across this book at the library and grabbed it quick. It was out on the table and on their own they began an experiment laid out in the lesson portion.
They tested different materials to clean up the oil (olive oil in this case)....
The experiment inspired lots of conversation and more interest in what we can do to help in the bigger picture... More experiments to come

Engineering Experiments

We are working through the "Dream Big" curriculum testing engineering projects. The first is inspired by the architecture of the Shanghai Tower. The kids worked for an hour and a half with noodles and marshmallows to create a 2 foot structure that could withstand wind.

This is the second of the experiments and it is testing non electric lighting solutions for the interior of buildings based on the SF Transbay Terminal.
