Chinese New Year

A dragon project before we ring in the Chinese New Year; year of the snake!

This project took some great listening ears, cutting and folding skills.

We discussed pattern and line as well as different types of scales that we saw on the 

fish from last weeks project. 

Bernetta and Rosie: Fish Art

Such a fun week of painting fish! Bernetta and Rosie modeled for the kids while they used oil pastel to draw a series of fish and then paint water color around them. We talked about texture and pattern, line and shape in this project. I found some rubber fish to leave at the art table to inspire more drawing later and students were already creating more!

After looking at brushwork from Asian paintings we read Three Cheers for Tacky the Penguin by Helen Lester for inspiration!

The Great Wall of China

Today we continued our discussion about China by focusing on The Great Wall. The kids were so interested that they continued exploring outside by building a great wall of their own out of snow!
